NH Hoteles The management development program New Heights was initially created to be an accelerator of the dynamic and successful growth of NH Hoteles. Targeted to all the Company’s Hotel Directors (referred to as GMs) worldwide, the program has taken its participants to a higher professional level of hotel business decision-making and thus preparing them to meet the everchanging needs of our fast-growing company as well as the changing trends in the hospitality industry.

Summary _ To guarantee a perfect alignment with the training and development needs of the participants, Corporate Human Resources has closely collaborated with top-level Directors of Operations, Quality & Competition, Revenue Management and Finance. By creating a feeling of shared ownership for this management development program we call New Heights, these four areas have made the training contents and tools re?ect upon day-to-day strategic decision-making and their impact on costs and revenue._ Next to the privileged situation of having a team of highest-level Operations experts – from Regional Directors & BU Operations Directors to BU Managing Directors – who have taken up the role of internal trainers, the main innovative aspect of this program has been precisely the combination of these internal experts as facilitators together with a tailor-made hotel management simulation tool, all of which made the premise “learn through experience” possible. The result has become an extraordinary high-quality and interactive course with which GMs from all over the NH world can compete in an educational environment, with and against each other, in order to improve their hotel management skills._ The hotel management simulator, customized to the KPI’s of our organization, has really proven to be an effective, practical, relevant, motivating and fun learning tool. The countless simulations have inspired ?nancial accountability, promoted better decision-making and truly driven the competitive spirit. By incorporating this tool within the training program, GMs have been able to take risks within a safe environment, providing a more in-depth learning experience. But above all, the commitment and leadership of the GMs, as well as their implication in the training and roll-up discussions, has been the key to its success._ In addition to the “regular” program, a New Heights Exclusive Edition was created and involved only a small group of Hotel GMs who had obtained a most outstanding Performance Appraisal during the previous year (and thus classi?ed as exclusive members). By creating a custom program in hospitality management, expressly tailored by Cornell University to our company needs, NH Hoteles has offered this year its 25 most outstanding GMs the opportunity to attend a hands-on workshop composed of case studies and delivered by a prominent Cornell University Professor. After the roll-out of this exclusive version, uniquely designed for the recognition of the excelling performance of a smaller group of Hotel GMs, the program has immediately become an ambition for all other GMs within NH._ The New Heights is designed to take place every year with new up-to-date topics and using the most effective training methodology, its aim being to promote the exponential growth of our GM’s throughout time. We plan to improve and evolve as new editions take place and we learn from our participants; and we will continue to tailor it based on feedback. Preliminary discussions have already started for the regular and exclusive New Heights program to be held next year. Also, next year we will add an extra target group : New Heights for High Potentials: a speci?c tailor-made training focused on a smaller group of junior GMs who are new to their responsibilities, but have generated high expectations and show great promise for their future development as managers.(The 2012 New Heights Program for the 352 GMs has entailed a total investment of 134.970 € (approximately 383 € per participant), whereas the New Heights Exclusive summed up to a total of 12.580 € (862 € per participant), a relatively low investment given the growth it provides its participants.)_ Please tell us why do think you win?
