
Hyatt is in a standstill with its workers' union until their 1 June appointment with Chicago's Unite Here workers to resolve a conflict in their labour contract.
The settlement is reportedly going to be similar to the one the union concluded with Hilton and Starwood.The second proposal comes from New York and if passed, will require hotels to equip their housekeeping staff with "panic buttons" in case of assault. Assemblyman Rory Lancman, a democrat from Queens, has the full support of The New York Hotel Workers’ Union.This labour conflict coincides with the proposal of two laws in the United States that could directly affect the American hospitality industry and possibly set a precedent elsewhere.The first one comes from California and will call for the mandatory use of fitted sheets instead of flat sheets for housekeeping staff.
