While the hospitality industry is renowned for being a veritable social ladder, where someone without a degree can start out as a dishwasher before working their way up to become a hotel manager, education remains the quickest route to positions of great responsibility. Future talents are turning to the best hotel schools to train and join this rich industry. However, the cost of excellent studies can be daunting for many students. This is a financial barrier that schools, authorities and even the students themselves are trying to overcome through various financing solutions.

A wide range of funding options

Grants, funding and support

While such studies may seem out of reach for many students because of their cost, there are many ways of financing them. Whether it's the government, schools or even themselves, students are spoilt for choice when it comes to funding their studies and getting into the best schools possible.

There are a considerable number of grants available in France to ensure that everyone has access to higher education. These include talent grants of between €2,000 and €4,000, based on means, merit and motivation. The social criteria grant, also known as the Crous state grant, is also available to students with financial difficulties. This starts at €1,500 and can rise to €6,335 in some cases. However, a number of criteria and conditions must be met to qualify for one of these two grants.

While the revenu minimum étudiant (RME) is not a grant dedicated to financing tuition fees per se, it does help students cope with the precariousness that greatly affects this segment of the population. Its aim is to help them finance study-related expenses such as accommodation, transport, school supplies and technological equipment.

Then there are the various forms of mobility aid, divided into 3 categories: Parcoursup mobility aid, Master's mobility aid and international mobility aid. The first is for secondary school students who have confirmed at least one wish outside their home academy on the Parcoursup platform, and amounts to 500 euros. The second grant of 1,000 euros is for students wishing to study for a master's degree in an academy other than the one in which they obtained their bachelor's degree.
