Les Roches recently hosted the fifth Spark Innovation Hackathon. Organised in partnership with WE TANGIBLE, a company specialising in innovation and entrepreneurship, the event brought together 30 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Marbella campus, all enrolled in the BBA programme in Global Hotel Management and Tourism Businesses.
Under the guidance of seasoned experts, Les Roches students worked on eight evolving initiatives, exploring the entrepreneurial potential of the tourism sector combined with technological advances. This approach reflects the school's commitment to encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship among its students.
With 24% of its graduates starting their own business within two years of graduating, and 33% having already successfully set up their own business, Les Roches continues to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
During the hackathon, students were supported by a team of entrepreneurship and innovation experts, working in teams to identify creative and impactful solutions. They were mentored and evaluated by professionals from leading companies and innovative start-ups, including George Macavei from Google, Anna Fortea from the European Commission, Pablo Valencia from WE TANGIBLE, and Alberto Cárdenas from Healthgroup and Fisia.
Among the projects presented, Safe Travel was hailed as having enormous potential. This specialist healthcare software platform aims to connect travellers and digital nomads to the nearest medical centres, offering valuable assistance in the event of an emergency.
Other initiatives, such as Smile INN and Safety Cup, have also attracted considerable interest. Smile INN offers biometric solutions to simplify check-in and check-out procedures for hotel guests, while Safety Cup seeks to ensure safety in nightclubs by detecting any tampering with drinks.
