Sonder, the technology-based short-term rental company, recently launched its first-ever hotel collection - Powered by Sonder. This collection apparently comprises 23 Sonder-operated properties in 13 markets.
What sets this collection apart from other multi-unit hotels and apartments is that all these properties are oriented towards boutique hotels and feature distinctive design and amenities, such as dining options. Each hotel has its own unique identity, which differs from the basic Sonder aesthetic. However, all of these properties will offer the same guest experience, including mobile check-in and service.
Among these 23 properties are :
- Atala in Paris and the Yelo Jean Medecin in Nice.
- In the USA, some of the properties in the Powered by Sonder collection include Chambers in New York and the Beverly Terrace, a 3-star hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
According to reports, all these properties can be booked on major reservation platforms.
In addition to launching its own hotel collection, Sonder has announced a partnership with Kalimian Equities to manage and operate a newly built hotel in New York, The Orchard. Located at the corner of Orchard and Allen Streets, the new 98-room hotel features a rooftop terrace, fitness center, dining venues and guest lounge.
Founded in Montreal, Sonder is expanding its presence in the United States and internationally. Earlier this month, Sonder strengthened its presence in Europe with the addition of five new properties in France, Italy and Spain. These properties join the group's existing portfolio of 54 hotels in the EMEA region. In June, Sonder expanded its presence in Florida and launched four new properties across the state, bringing its total direct footprint to 930 units in hotel, resort and multi-unit apartment properties. These four properties more than double Sonder's direct unit count in Florida, joining the eight existing properties.
Currently, Sonder operates 18,200 direct and contract units in more than 40 markets across 10 countries. In the first quarter of 2023, Sonder recorded 50% year-on-year revenue growth.
“Hotels make up a significant and growing part of our portfolio. The Powered by Sonder collection offers authentic, local stays in the heart of vibrant neighborhoods – at global scale and with the consistency and quality that our guests expect. Each hotel has a strong design perspective, which is distinct from Sonder’s core design aesthetic, while featuring our seamless, app-driven service. Many have unique features for our guests to discover, including on-site food and beverage outlets.” - Francis Davidson, Co-Founder and CEO at Sonder
“Hotels in the Powered by Sonder collection benefit from our proprietary technology and operational expertise, and existing boutique hotels can be efficiently integrated into our portfolio. We’re continuing to expand and diversify our portfolio, with hotels and resorts in both our Powered by Sonder and wider collection, in addition to multi-unit apartment properties.” - Martin Picard, Co-Founder and Chief Real Estate Officer at Sonder
