The top 10 French hotel groups are holding firm to their positions. Accor's total portfolio is still greater than the total of its 8 challengers. The French leader has almost three times as many hotels as the number 2, Jin Jiang. The history of the development of the French branded hotel portfolio - overwhelmingly driven by Accor until the arrival of Groupe Envergure, now Louvre Hotel - is still clearly visible within the top three. It is from tenth place onwards that we see some movement in the rankings.
Number 1 Accor remains the market leader by a wide margin, although its growth will have eroded by 2022. After stable growth in 2021 (+1.4%), the number of hotel rooms fell by 0.3%, i.e., a net loss of 416 rooms out of a total of 152,242 in 2021. Mercure stayed on course with a positive balance of one opening, representing a 0.8% increase in the number of rooms.
Growth was driven by the Ennismore and lifestyle portfolio brands, with one opening at Tribe, four openings at Greet and one at Mama Shelter. However, the portfolio of these brands is still smaller than that of the Group's historic brands.
Jin Jiang lost 1,248 rooms in 2022, representing a decline of 2.1%. Only Kyriad Direct, with 7 hotel openings in 2022, and Kyriad Prestige and Radisson Blu, with one net opening each, are in the positive. Despite the closure of the Radisson Blu Cannes for conversion, the brand gained 5.7% of rooms.
