Despite the unstable context, notably marked by strike movements, the French hotel industry did not falter this month. Supported by the school holidays which were spread over the whole month (first zone from 4th of February), tourists are present, both on the seaside, in the mountains, but also in big cities.

France posted a 16.4% increase in RevPAR thanks to an ADR +20% higher than in February 2019. Attendance was almost identical to 2019 (-1.8 points only).

The upscale segment performed the best this month with +23.1% RevPAR growth enabled by a +30% higher ADR , even though footfall was almost back to February 2019 levels (only -3.3 points). The least advanced segment is the economy segment, which this month shows an increase of "only" 8.6% thanks to a 13.1% increase in ADR but still lags slightly behind in terms of occupancy -2.3 points.

Paris recorded by far the best results in terms of both occupancy and ADR : +1.1% occupancy rate vs. 2019 and the capital posted a 31.7% increase in ADR, allowing the City of Light to post a 33.8% RevPAR in February. Conversely, the region Ile-de-France is still suffering with a -4.0% lag in activity due to the occupancy rate still at -7.3 points of pre-crisis levels. Nevertheless, in the regions as a whole, there was a 15.2% increase in RevPAR and only a -0.8 point drop in occupancy.

If the result is good overall, it is in particular thanks to the mountains (Northern and Southern Alps, medium mountains and Pyrenees) but not only: the coast was also popular during the school holidays. Over the school holiday period, almost all the other French coastlines showed significant increases in activity, with everywhere a frequentation that was even higher than in February 2019. The city of Nice, for example, posted a 30% increase in RevPAR, driven by an ADR increase of almost 20%, but also and above all by an increase in occupancy of more than 4 points compared to February 2019! Aix-Marseille followed a similar trend with +2 points in attendance. ...
