Graz

The IntercityHotel in Graz (229 rooms) opened in November, becoming the second hotel of this brand in Austria.

After Vienna, an IntercityHotel opened on November 13, 2020, in Graz city center, on Finkengasse, near the railway station. With 5 floors and 229 rooms, it offers the largest capacity in the city.

The 4-star hotel benefits from an interior created by Italian architect Matteo Thun, matching Graz's reputation as "capital of design". The new hotel also offers a restaurant, a BistroLounge, a Smokers' Lounge and four conference rooms.

The project developer, GBI, has already created a mixed-use building in the immediate vicinity of the railway station. On summer 2020, 187 apartments for students have been built near the hotel under the group’s own SMARTments brand. Deka Immobilien obtained a purchase contract to acquire the IntercityHotel in Graz before the beginning of construction works, in the spring of 2019, and placed it in the special fund TargetSelect of WestInvest. GBI is the most significant developer on the hotel segment in Germany for several years. However, the IntercityHotel Graz is its first hotel in Austria.

Currently, he IntercityHotel in Graz exhibits photographic works of art related to the "Kunsträume" ("Art Rooms") project. This project is the result of a cooperation agreement with the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. It allows art works by young local artists to be exhibited in selected hotels of the IntercityHotel brand. The IntercityHotel Graz forms the backdrop for images by Simon Grunert and Georg Barbe, whose exhibition entitled “Traces” takes a photographic look at Graz and Styria and invites observers to consider the city and the region from their personal point of view.
