hotel bedding: in search of the perfect sleep

A comfortable bed is one, if not the, key to a good night’s sleep. In this area, do hotels continue to meet the requests of increasingly demanding clients? Not necessarily, affirmed the 600 frequent travelers surveyed on the behalf of the chain Westin in the year 2000. Things have certainly changed: upmarket hotels have led the way by introducing higher, bigger, more technical beds. Hoteliers have understood they need to promote quality in order to offer their clients optimal comfort and that offering a beneficial cocoon promotes better guest loyalty...

The ?King size” trend initiated by luxury hotels in recent years has –proportionately- won over the other categories where it is not rare to find excellent quality beds topped with fluffy comforters. To meet these new requests from hotel guests bedding manufacturers have significantly expanded their supply. The first example of this trend: the catalogues of certain manufacturers also present thicker mattresses (more than 30 cm). Oliver Heck, director Hospitality and Export Sales for the group Sapsa (which also holds the manufacturing license for European markets outside the UK, for Sealy brand bedding), explains the new references in the hotel world: “In luxury hotels, we cover lengths up to 220 cm. Our mattresses can be more than 30 cm thick.
