MEININGER, the international hotel group based on a hybrid concept, is maintaining its plans with the opening of hotels in Bordeaux, Marseille, Innsbruck, Zurich and Geneva.
With 29 hybrid properties in the largest European metropolises, MEININGER is making its mark on the hotel market with an overall room occupancy rate of 89% in the 2018/2019 financial year.
Despite the health crisis and the closely related challenges, as well as a 30% occupancy rate compared to 2019, MEININGER Hotels wants to maintain its development plan and quickly establish new priorities within the company. Digitalisation and sustainability are therefore at the heart of the issues and the hotel group plans to invest heavily in these areas.
The differentiation of the MEININGER Hotels concept lies in the flexible accommodation structure, which allows it to address different customer segments. The excellent price-performance ratio, central location, high quality facilities and a wide range of accommodation in different categories reinforce the character targeted by the hotel group.
Expansion in France with Bordeaux and Marseille
Following the opening of 2 properties at the end of 2019, in Paris and Lyon, MEININGER HOTELS plans to increase capacity to more than 2,600 beds across France by the end of 2021.
Designed by French architect Patrick Arotcharen, the MEININGER Bordeaux will open in May 2021 with a capacity of 173 rooms, or 526 beds. Located near the main train station Saint-Jean, the hotel will be built by integrating parts of the façade of an old building.
The conquest of France will continue at the end of 2021 with the opening of the MEININGER Marseille, which will have 194 rooms (574 beds).
MEININGER enters the Austrian market with a 5th hotel
Innsbruck, a renowned winter sports destination with its imperial and modern architecture, will be the location of the new 74-room (259-bed) hotel. After Vienna and Salzburg, MEININGER HOTELS will be located in a completely renovated building with sports facilities, such as a ski and bicycle room.
Switzerland : New destination with Zurich and Geneva
MEININGER HOTELS has decided to establish itself in Zurich, more specifically in the new sustainable district in the south of the city, called Greencity. This location is in line with the above-mentioned sustainable development logic, as all the energy used in this district is renewable. The hotel has a capacity of 582 beds in 174 rooms. Its location will allow guests to take advantage of public transport and two car-sharing stations to quickly reach the city centre.
Geneva, surrounded by the Jura and Alpine mountains and the world centre of diplomacy, is the second Swiss city where MEININGER HOTELS has decided to establish itself with a total capacity of 368 beds, i.e. 104 rooms. The stakes are high as Geneva is a major tourist attraction, due to its proximity to winter sports resorts, cultural venues and Lake Geneva.
"We are very pleased with our openings this year and plan to continue our expansion throughout Europe after the pandemic, knowing that the MEININGER hybrid concept offers many opportunities." Doros Theodorou, Chief Commercial Officer of MEININGER Hotels, said.
