Whitbread, the UK’s largest hospitality business, has announced that it added 11 new and extended hotels to its national network during its 2022/23 financial year, which closed on 2nd March 2023.
Significant new properties included:
- The 180-room hub by Premier Inn at Clerkenwell
- The 28-storey and 400-key Premier Inn at Canary Wharf
- The Paddington Basin 393-bedroom Premier Inn
- The first Premier Inn with a new format Brewers Fayre restaurant in Milton Keynes
- St Helier’s second Premier Inn
- The Lake District National Park’s first Premier Inn
The new hotels were delivered through a mixture of Whitbread-led freehold developments and leasehold hotels built in partnership with the company’s development partners. Altogether, the 11 new properties added 1,500 keys to Whitbread’s UK and Ireland network and created 500 new jobs.
The company has stated that it plans to secure new Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn hotels in more than 160 locations across the UK and Ireland as part of its expansion plans. Its portfolio in the two countries currently stands at more than 840 properties.
The openings show how active we continue to be having identified an increased market potential from 100,000 to 125,000 Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn bedrooms in the UK and Ireland. They also clearly demonstrate the strength of our design and construction capabilities, often in sensitive and constrained locations. We completed some highly complex developments during the last financial year, growing our estate in popular, sought-after locations, and all these learnings will be fed into the next generation of locations for Premier Inn and hub across the UK and Ireland.
