Topping-out at Premier Inn Marylebone

Whitbread have announced the topping-out of the under-construction hub by Premier Inn on Old Marylebone Road. Once completed, it will be the tallest property of the brand in the city and offer skyline views over the centre of London.

The hub will boast 294 guestrooms spread over 13 storeys when it opens in winter 2023. The 14th hub by Premier Inn hotel in London will be ideally located for getting around the city with immediate access to Edgware Road underground station and Marylebone railway station.

The site is one of three Premier Inns currently under development in the Marylebone and Paddington areas of the British capital. Within the City of Westminster alone, the brand already operates seven Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn hotels.

According to MKG Consulting, the chain is the second biggest in Europe, with some 84,100 rooms acoss 852 hotels in 2022. Its owner, Whitbread, is also the biggest group in the UK in 2022, and passed the 81,000-room mark in its home market this year (+3.1% vs 2021).

Whitbread anticipates that the new hotel will create 40 new jobs in the area and attract some 100,000 guests a year.

The topping out of the Marylebone hub by Premier Inn is a significant moment for our Central London team. It marks years of hard work by many dedicated people to acquire a former office building that once occupied the site, secure planning consent for a hub by Premier Inn, clear the site and construct the 294-room hotel in a respectful way in a heavily constrained location. We still have another year of construction work ahead of us before we are ready to open, but when we do I know that we will have created a wonderful new affordable hotel for our customers to enjoy in a distinctive, vibrant, and connected part of London. I am confident the new Marylebone hub by Premier Inn will be a very popular location for our guests and an excellent addition to our growing network of affordable hotels in Central London.

Alex Flach, UK Development Director at Whitbread

Living just around the corner from this new site, it’s been great to see this new hotel progress and today reach the exciting Topping Out point in the build. The hotel’s prime location, within easy reach of the West End and all that has to offer, makes it the perfect site to continue to welcome back both tourists and business travellers. Westminster supports one in eight jobs in London and our Westminster Employment Service helps residents into good quality jobs. We have also recently announced our new Westminster Works initiative which aims to drive people into employment within the hospitality industry. We will continue to support Premier Inn with its expansion plans which will help support hundreds of Westminster residents into high-quality employment opportunities and to continue to provide fantastic accommodation options for the millions of visitors who come to our city each year.
