Travelodge announces new hotel

Travelodge is set to expand its presence near London's Stratford Station with the unveiling of a new hotel within walking distance of the transport hub.

The 151-room property will be situated in Gredley House on Broadway, offering convenient access to National Rail, Underground, Overground, DLR, and Elizabeth Line services. Construction is scheduled to begin next month, with the hotel expected to open its doors by the end of the following year.

The upcoming hotel will feature Travelodge's latest design introduced in 2021, along with the group's redesigned 85 Bar Café, gradually rolling out to selected properties. This new addition that represents Travelodge's 85th property in London, will become Travelodge's closest hotel to Stratford station, complementing the existing Travelodge London Stratford, which opened in 2012 ahead of the London Summer Olympics.

“Travelodge is delighted to continue the expansion of our network of hotels throughout London and this new hotel in the thriving hub of Stratford will be a fantastic addition to our portfolio. The site is in a prime location, just moments away from Stratford station and Westfield Stratford City shopping centre, and will attract new visitors to the area.” - Tony O’Brien, UK development director, Travelodge

Furthermore, Travelodge has appointed Barnes Construction as the main contractor for the project. Barnes Construction will commence work next month to transform Gredley House into a 151-room Travelodge hotel, while the new establishment will be built to a BREEAM Excellent standard.

“We are also thrilled to be working with Barnes Construction on yet another successful project and hope this new hotel will be open for trading by the end of 2025.” - Tony O’Brien, UK development director, Travelodge

The building's owner, Unex Group, has agreed to a 25-year lease for the site.

“We have great experience of converting existing office space into Travelodge hotels and are looking forward to working with Unex to bring this former office building back to life. This type of development is a win-win solution for all parties, as it converts redundant space back into economic use, which is a highly sustainable way of developing, delivers significant inward investment and creates new jobs.”- Tony O’Brien, UK development director, Travelodge

Moreover, Freeths has played a key role in advising Travelodge on this venture.

"We're very pleased to have got this complex deal across the line, due in large part to Freeths' commercial approach and expertise across the board in acquisition, planning, and construction. Travelodge is delighted to continue the expansion of our network of hotels throughout London, and this new hotel in the thriving hub of Stratford will be a fantastic addition to our portfolio." - Alan Oliver, Travelodge's Development Manager for London
