TFE Hotels is pursuing its growth in Europe with the opening of Adina Apartment Hotel Geneva. The move brings the Australian hotel group’s European portfolio to 18 properties.
TFE’s first Swiss hotel is part of an urban renewal project. Developed by Claude Berda, the 11-hectare former industrial site has been transformed into a modern, mixed-use lifestyle precinct complete with several hotels, retail units, restaurants, residential and mixed-use apartments, a school, and offices. The project constitutes the largest private real-estate investment in Switzerland.
Adina Geneva is a 140-key property housed in a 10-storey building. Its interiors are signed by Australian designer Andrew Parr from SJB Melbourne and feature in-room chairs crafted by Melbourne designer Chris Connell. As part of the Les Atmosphères section of the precinct, the hotel and its surrounding buildings boast a shared rooftop garden.
Sustainability is key to the hotel, and across the precinct at large. Water from Lake Geneva is exploited through hydrothermal technology to regulate the property’s temperature, before being released back into the lake without generating CO2 emissions.
B Coffee Pods are an innovation that use a thin layer of biodegradable algae instead of the traditional foil. Available throughout the hotel, they will allow guests to recycle coffee beans and help fertilise the hotel’s garden without adding to landfill.
We have opened eight international Adina hotels over the past two years and entered new global markets including Austria, Singapore, and now Switzerland. So, Geneva - with its strong global financial, diplomatic, business and leisure markets - was a natural next step for us. […] Geneva has a very low proportion of apartment hotels that can cater to these seasoned travellers. The fact that the market is not competitive in this space gives us an opportunity to position Adina Hotels as a long-term market leader in Switzerland, with Zurich, Basel, and Lucerne other potential locations in the future.
Antony Ritch, CEO of TFE Hotels
Working with Geneva’s environmental guidelines for new builds, the Adina Hotel reduces energy consumption through external sun shading, magnetic window controls that automatically switch off power when the windows open; guest control of sunshades and super-efficient, high-tech building management systems to further reduce energy consumption without reducing guest comfort. It all adds up to a clean and green stay.
