Scandic opens new hotel in Munich

Scandic has added a fifth hotel to its German portfolio with the opening of a new property in Munich, it now operates 1,645 rooms in the country. Pursing ambitious growth plans, this constitutes the 9th hotel the Nordic operator has opened this calendar year.

Scandic München Macherei has 324 guestrooms and is located in the city’s lively Die Macherei quarter. Its tile and brick interiors were designed by Koncept, whilst its Nordic-style exterior was conceived by HWKN New York.

The hotel’s restaurant and bar, Zieglerei, serves up international fare with Scandinavian and local Bavarian influences. Furthermore, the property boasts a gym, an outdoor terrace, spacious co-working spaces and lounges, as well as private meeting rooms that can host up to 20 people.

Sustainability is central to Scandic München Macherei. The building is certified LEED and meets the requirements for LEED Gold. As for the hotel, it aims to fulfil the new criteria for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, once the certification is launched in Germany. It consists of eco-labelled products and chemicals, 100% renewable electricity, no single-use disposables, reduced water consumption, reduced food waste, and a climate-conscious menu.

Die Macherei is a district for movers and shakers - a creative place where ideas are brought to life. Munich is also an important strategic location for us, so it's exciting to be opening Scandic's first hotel in the city. We're continuing our growth strategy of expanding in Germany's largest cities. Scandic München Macherei complements our German portfolio at a time when leisure and business travellers have returned in large numbers to our hotels.

Michel Schutzbach, Head of Europe at Scandic Hotels

I'm very much looking forward to bringing a new type of hotel experience to Munich. We've placed great emphasis on creating a sense of community here at Scandic München Macherei and in addition to chic and comfortable hotel rooms, we offer spacious lounge areas for relaxing, coworking, socialising and for private events and seasonal usage, a rooftop terrace with a stunning view of the Alps. Together with my outstanding team, we're ready to welcome guests to enjoy truly great hotel experiences.
