Torquay's hospitality sector sees an important addition with the opening of the Premier Inn Torquay Harbour hotel.
Developed on part of an underutilized car park, the new hotel aims to complement existing accommodations in Torquay while offering long-term benefits to the town center, local businesses, and the community.
Following the appointment of Willmott Dixon by Torbay Council in November 2022, the completion of the hotel project faced various challenges, including the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the insolvency of the original contractor. Despite these obstacles, the 120-bedroom Premier Inn, operated by Whitbread PLC, has opened its doors, ready to serve as a hospitality hub for Torquay.
With expectations to attract a substantial number of guests annually, the Premier Inn Torquay Harbour is projected to contribute around £3 million to the town's tourism expenditure. Employing 41 team members, the hotel introduces Premier Inn's latest offerings, including 28 enhanced Premier Plus bedrooms.
“Opening our second location in Torquay demonstrates our confidence in the town as a visitor destination. The Torquay Harbour Premier Inn adds another superb location to our network for our guests and we’re proud to be creating 41 new permanent jobs, with training and development opportunities, and making another long-term investment in the community.”- Kate Hunter-Bond, Estate Development Programme Manager for Whitbread
This initiative aligns with Torbay Council's broader plans for Torquay, focusing on town center improvements, sustainable job creation, and attracting additional investment.
