Minor Hotels will continue its expansion in Europe with the opening of Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi in April. The hotel will be Anantara’s second in Italy and its eighth overall on the continent.
The heritage hotel occupies a 13th-century monastery and former Capuchin Friars convent. It will undergo extensive restoration and renovation works before its planned reopening. It formerly operated under the NH Collection brand and will be converted to an Anantara property. In spring 2023, it will boast new-look accommodation, refreshed dining concepts, and a completely redesigned spa.
The works will aim to balance conservation, maintenance, and restoration to preserve the original appearance of the façade, as well as the original materials and design of the 800-year-old building. The on-site Late Baroque church will, for example, maintain its marble altar and Majolica floor.
Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi’s 52 guestrooms and suites will be rejuvenated yet retain many of their original elements. The existing tiled flooring, vaulted ceilings, and lime-washed walls will be preserved, and the suites will maintain their vast terraces complete with plunge pools. Rich textiles, sculptural furniture, locally sourced contemporary art, and the latest in high-tech comforts will be added to elevate the customer experience in the lodgings.
The property’s F&B offer consists of a restaurant and a bar and lounge area. The main restaurant provides Mediterranean fare and wood-fired pizza. Latticed metal dividers and monastic boiserie panels will be added to separate it from the lounge area. The bar and lounge area will be transformed with the addition of contemporary lighting, statement rugs, and low-slung furniture.
A new Anantara-branded spa will open in place of the existing leisure facilities. Its amenities will include three treatment rooms offering healing therapies and beauty treatments, a sea-facing relaxation area, and a fully equipped gym.
We are thrilled to soon be able to welcome Anantara guests to one of Italy’s most iconic destinations as part of Anantara’s expansion into Europe. We are taking great care to restore the 800-year-old building to strict historic-preservation guidelines while adding a contemporary look and feel to the rooms and public areas, as well as making sure that every guest experience at Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi is exceptional.
