Luis and Roberto Riu Rodríguez are key figures in the generational succession of the RIU Group, playing crucial roles in its expansion and decarbonization initiatives. As members of the fourth generation of the Riu family and sons of Luis Riu Güell, they have been instrumental in the group's investment and development projects. They now manage these projects autonomously, overseeing regions and initiatives independently after initially working closely with their father.
Their contributions include leading RIU's strategic decarbonization project, focused on the self-production of electrical energy. Together, they have spearheaded the design and implementation of 24 photovoltaic panel projects in 23 hotels, amounting to an investment of over 8.6 million euros and resulting in a reduction of 7,375 tonnes of CO2 emissions. This initiative reflects their commitment to sustainability and the future growth of the company.
The Riu brothers play a critical role in maintaining the family-driven business model, which emphasizes direct involvement in all aspects of development—from site selection to design, construction, and operation. Their work is essential to ensuring the continuity and success of the RIU Group as it navigates a generational transition.
Luis Riu Rodríguez, the eldest, holds degrees in economics from the University of Kent and a master’s in economics from UCSB, along with a marketing degree from EAE in Barcelona. Prior to joining RIU, he gained experience in investment banking at BBVA London. Within RIU, he has held roles in key destinations like Miami, New York, and the Canary Islands, where he also led the renovation of Riu Buenavista. He is known for spearheading the innovative RIU Party project, which has since expanded internationally.
Roberto Riu, the youngest, studied Business Administration at IQS University in Barcelona and earned a master’s degree in Negotiations from IESEG School of Management in Paris. He gained experience working with TUI Netherlands and completed internships across various RIU departments. He also contributed to the renovation of Riu Palace Jandia and has been actively involved in the group’s operations in Jamaica and Miami.
Both brothers’ work is integral to the RIU Group's continued growth and its adaptation to modern challenges, ensuring the company remains a strong player in the global hospitality industry.
