Family-owned real estate investment and development company, Lamington Group, has announced it will open net zero room2 hometels in York, Glasgow, and Manchester. The move comes as part of the company’s sustainable property development plan and represents an investment of €114 million.

The room2 brand currently has 3 operational establishments in the UK, of which room2 Chiswick was the world’s first fully whole life net zero hotel when it opened in December 2021. A 4th property is due to open in Belfast early next year. The brand’s hometels are a combination of serviced apartments, boutique hotels and an Airbnb-style service.

room2 York
The 116-room hometel will open in September 2024. Located inside the city’s historic castle walls, it is being developed by North Star.

room2 Glasgow
Opening in Q1 2025 in a partly new-built and partly refurbished building in the city’s financial district, the property will offer views of the River Clyde. The 134-bed hometel is being developed in partnership with Mosaic planning architects, developer One Clyde Ltd, West One Capital and planning consultant Iceni.

room2 Manchester
180 rooms across 22 floors, including studios as well as 1- and 2-bedroom apartments, will house guests in the brand’s tallest hometel to date. Opening Q1 2026 near Manchester’s Piccadilly station, the property will be built as a joint venture between Lamington Group and North Star/Country Large.

All three hometels will offer F&B options open to guests and the public alike. Additional amenities will include work and meeting spaces, gyms and laundry rooms. As is the case with other room2 properties, local craftspeople and designers using innovate technologies and recycled/reclaimed materials will provide much of the furnishings.

Lamington Group strives to push the boundaries of net zero in the hospitality industry. The opening of new net zero properties in York, Glasgow and Manchester is a realisation of the group’s vision to expand across the country and reach 5,000 keys by 2030. At the heart of each property remains our commitment to social values, community engagement and collaboration and the promotion of sustainable values to educate guests on the importance of the sustainability agenda.
