IHG Hotels & Resorts will debut its luxury brand on the Greek island with the opening of the InterContinental Resort Crete set for spring 2023.
The hotel will feature 205 rooms, all of which boast private verandas. Half of these rooms will also have private jacuzzies for guests’ use. Four restaurants, three bars and a range of facilities including a leisure centre, pool terrace, indoor spa, infinity pool deck and rooftop pool will be available to guests. Those wishing to work while staying in the hotel will also have access to its dedicated working spaces.
The interior design of the InterContinental Resort Crete takes direct inspiration from the island and its history. The entrance, lobby and reception will pay homage to Crete’s coastal topography with an exposed rock face lit from above by a water-filled skylight. Furthermore, the hotel will provide views across Mirabello Bay and be directly accessible from the seafront via a promenade.
The Cretan hotel will be developed by IHG in partnership with private equity real estate firm Henderson Park and international real estate firm Hines. The opening will further strengthen the brand’s recent expansion into the area with new locations including Ankara, Baku and Čanj, Montenegro. IHG has also just agreed a 20-year extension with InterContinental Athens.
Located in Agios Nikolaos, the island’s capital, Heraklion, as well as Heraklion International Airport will be less than an hour’s drive from the hotel.
InterContinental is the world’s first and largest luxury hotel brand and has been renowned by guests as the epitome of the luxury hotel experience for the past 75 years. We are delighted to be partnering with Henderson Park and Hines to introduce the brand in Crete and look forward to bringing our shared vision to life.
