IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced that it has surpassed 200 open hotels across its Northern Europe market. This milestone highlights the group's continued growth, with new hotel openings and brand debuts across four countries.

Several IHG brands are entering Northern Europe for the first time. Germany is set to welcome its first Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and Garner properties later this year, along with Candlewood Suites in early 2025. Hungary has introduced its first Kimpton and Vignette Collection hotels, while voco hotels has debuted in Sweden, with another signing in Poland.

Germany

Germany is preparing to welcome two notable IHG brands. Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will make its debut in late 2024 with Kimpton Frankfurt Main, a luxury boutique hotel featuring 155 rooms, meeting spaces, two restaurants, two bars, and a gym. This new addition will be located within the FOUR development, part of Frankfurt’s evolving skyline. Additionally, Garner, IHG’s new midscale conversion brand, will see its first properties open across Germany from late 2024. These hotels, converted from NOVUM Hospitality’s existing Yggotel, Select Hotels, and Novum brands, will offer affordable comfort. Also making its debut in 2025 is Candlewood Suites, an extended-stay brand, with 11 properties set to be converted from NOVUM’s acora Living the City brand.

Furthermore, Holiday Inn Express Munich Airport-Erding is slated to open in late 2024. This 118-room hotel, developed in partnership with HR Group, will offer convenient access to Munich Airport with pet-friendly accommodations, a conference space, and a local bar serving brews from the neighborhood.

“The recent growth we are seeing in our Northern Europe markets is incredibly encouraging, particularly as it includes new hotels across all four of our Luxury & Lifestyle, Premium, Essentials and Suites portfolios. These markets are benefitting from the investment we are making in local capability, commercial platforms and on-the-ground expertise to drive and realise growth and quality. It is a sign of our own confidence in these markets, of our owners who continue to trust us, and of the many guests who continue to choose to experience our brands.” - Mario Maxeiner, Managing Director Northern Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts

Poland

IHG continues its growth in Poland with several new properties in development. The Holiday Inn Express Lublin, opening in late 2024, will bring 150 rooms, a restaurant, and meeting facilities to the heart of Lublin. This property, a conversion from an independent hotel, will be the fourth Holiday Inn Express in Poland. Additionally, voco Katowice, with 167 rooms, will debut in 2025, offering easy access to the International Congress Centre and concert hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.

In Krakow, IHG is set to open its second Hotel Indigo property, Hotel Indigo Krakow – Wawel Castle, in 2025. This hotel will feature 74 rooms, a restaurant, bar, and wellness area, located near some of Krakow’s top attractions, including the Wawel Royal Castle and Kazimierz Jewish District.

Hungary

IHG recently introduced the Kimpton BEM Budapest, which opened in July 2024. Located in a historic 19th-century building, this 127-room luxury boutique hotel celebrates both Hungarian folklore and modern design, featuring three restaurants and an interior by Marcel Wanders. Additionally, the voco brand will debut in Hungary with voco Szekesfehervar in 2025. This 95-room hotel, featuring a bar, restaurant, gym, and meeting spaces, will be IHG’s first property outside the capital city, expanding its presence into new regions.
