Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the completion of its acquisition of the Mr & Mrs Smith travel platform. The company also expects to maintain its net rooms growth into 2023 and beyond.

Mr & Mrs Smith is a London-based global travel platform that provides direct booking access to a collection of more than 1,500 boutique and luxury properties. Hyatt has acquired 100% of the asset-light platform for an enterprise value of £53.0 million in cash consideration.

The addition to Hyatt’s portfolio expands its offer to new destinations including Fiji, Croatia, Iceland, and Anguilla.

Furthermore, the company expects to maintain its transformative growth of the last five years with the entry of Hyatt Studios, its new extended-stay brand, into the upper-midscale segment in the Americas.

Its growth is not limited to Hyatt Studios. All of the company’s brand collections will continue to grow in the future.

This growth is fuelled in part by the World of Hyatt loyalty programme’s member base. It has grown by 260% in the last five years and Hyatt has shared that World of Hyatt members book almost 50% more stays in a year than non-members and spend over 70% more per year with the company than guests who are non-members.

Our competitive advantage is that we have vast areas of white space for development and a rapidly growing World of Hyatt loyalty member base. We average four hotels in markets where we have hotels whereas our competition averages 14, meaning fertile territory for developers who don’t have to worry about intra-brand competition.

Jim Chu, Executive Vice-President & Global Growth Officer at Hyatt

World of Hyatt members represent high-quality revenue for owners and operators. Our members spend more, stay more, and seek out Hyatt for different stay occasions, as evidenced by the significant increase in Brand Explorer awards, which reward guests every time they stay at five different Hyatt brands.
