Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel

Tivoli Hotels & Resorts has announced the launch of its first hotel in the Netherlands. Located in the heart of Amsterdam, the 16th century property is considered to be the oldest hotel in the city.

Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel boasts 81 guestrooms, including seven suites, and a restaurant and bar. The 47 m² Rembrandt Suite is adorned with an exact replica of The Night Watch, which hung in the hotel for over 70 years before being moved to the Rijksmuseum. The Empress Suite was once the boudoir of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.

The hotel’s interiors are inspired by the Dutch Golden Age and its historic links with Rembrandt. They blend old-world elegance with contemporary service and brand details. Rooms offer views over the canals or the city and sport pastel tones with red splashes of colour and wood elements.

Omber restaurant serves up a Mediterranean-Dutch fusion menu. The concept is tied in intimately with the hotel’s Rembrandt theme: its name is inspired by the painter’s signature colour, certain dishes are inspired by his favourite foods such as herring and pickles, and every dish contains an element inspired by his colour palette.

The adjoining bar proposes signature cocktails created with Rembrandt’s favourite Dutch gin, Jenever. Local producer Wynand Fockink produces the chosen gin using a similar distillation process to that used during the Dutch Golden Age. One of the cocktails, named Night Watch, is based on an old recipe found in the property’s archives dating back to the 17th century.

As regards leisure, Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel enjoys a range of personalised canal tours, as well as the “In the Footsteps of Rembrandt” tour, which takes in his home and studio, the Zuiderkerk, and De Waag artists’ guild. Finally, a partnership with The Rembrandt House Museum gives guests the chance to dine in the Dutch master’s kitchen or to take part in a painting workshop.

The opening brings the Minor Hotels’ brand’s portfolio to 17 properties in Portugal, Brazil, Qatar, China, and the Netherlands.
