easyHotel officially opened its latest French property on 27th June 2023. The affordable low-carbon chain’s Managing Director, Karim Malak, was accompanied by the Mayor of Aubervilliers, Karine Franclet, and Emmanuelle Baboulin from Icade for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
easyHotel Paris Nord-Aubervilliers boasts 180 guestrooms, a lobby, and a breakfast space across its 4,000 m². With an average surface area of 12 m² per guestroom, the chain is pursuing its low-carbon approach through compact spaces that house only “the very best essentials” and cut out all “superfluous” amenities.
Karim Malak stated that these ‘essentials’ are in phase with the quality of a four-star hotel and consist, in an easyHotel property, of a 30 cm-thick mattress, blackout blinds, a modern bathroom, and a high level of soundproofing.
This stripped-back approach of “only the essentials” has been thought out to reduce emissions and to invite clients to explore the local area and businesses.
Many of the rooms in the property sport easyHotel’s new design concept. Taking the chain’s low-carbon commitments further, the concept integrates natural materials such as wood into the design of the spaces. An emphasis is also put on the choice of recycled, recyclable, or bio-sourced elements in their strictly regulated choice of materials.
The reduction of carbon emissions is a key objective for the chain. Recently, it announced low-carbon investments aimed at improving the footprint of its UK portfolio and this initiative will soon arrive in continental Europe, with a particular focus on France, Spain, and Benelux.
During the ceremony, Karim Malak shared that easyHotel’s room model produces 20% less CO2 emissions per unit and per stay than its competitors, as per a study led by Artelia. The building that accommodates easyHotel Paris Nord-Aubervilliers has also been certified BREEAM Very Good.
The property stands just to the north of Paris, in the suburb of Aubervilliers. It was developed by Icade and is part of the developer/investor’s Portes de Paris business park, which houses 329,000 m² of offices, F&B options, and green spaces across its 44 hectares.
When choosing a location, immediate access to transport links is a key criterion for the chain. The Front Populaire metro station is situated some fifteen metres from the hotel’s entrance. By transiting via this station, guests can reach several of Paris’ most famed neighbourhoods in under twenty minutes.
easyHotel Paris Nord-Aubervilliers has been welcoming clients since March 2023. It is the chain’s 3rd opening this year after Madrid and Dublin. Another French addition is set for 2024 in Marseille, and more projects are in the pipeline for Barcelona, Valencia, and Zürich.
easyHotel’s stated ambition is to increase its portfolio from its current 44 properties to 100 hotels by the end of 2026.
