A new member of Design Hotels has opened its doors in the Alpine town of Bad Gastein. The Cōmodo seeks to strike a perfect balance between creativity, rejuvenation, and nature. The mountain refuge will be open all year round.
The Cōmodo boasts 70 guestrooms and suites. The rooms range from 19 m² to 50 m² and feature floor-to-ceiling windows offering views over Gastein valley or the surrounding woodland. The four suites are fitted out with a bathtub, a living room with a working desk, a couch, and a chaise lounge, as well as record players, a small selection of LPs, and balconies. The artisanal tapestries, carpets, prints, and wall designs that adorn the lodgings were selected by weStudio, a previous collaborator of Design Hotels'.
The hotel’s F&B offering consists of a restaurant and a bar on the ground floor. The restaurant adheres to a farm-to-table approach and serves up modern Austrian fare. The bar provides organic wines and classic cocktails, thought out to complement the cuisine on offer in the restaurant.
Drawing on Bad Gastein’s history as a favourite spa resort of the members of the Austrian royal family, The Cōmodo features a comprehensive wellness offer. Its spa features treatments performed using Gastein thermal waters, Saint Charles products, five treatment rooms, two saunas, an indoor pool, and a sundeck. In addition, the hotel’s leisure facilities also include a fitness centre, a yoga studio, and a boutique cinema.
The property stands inside the town’s former sanatorium. Berlin-based designer Piotr Wisniewski and architect Barbara Elwardt, along with their agency weStudio, oversaw its transformation into a contemporary mountain resort. The Cōmodo displays historical and geographical references and evokes the feel of a 1960/70s Alpine resort. Its interior decoration features modern art and design pieces, the property’s original terrazzo floor, a rich wine and bottle green colour scheme, as well as local materials like oak and pine wood.
