Accor is expanding its Handwritten Collection brand to Croatia with the addition of Hotel Continental in Rijeka. This marks the first Handwritten Collection property in Croatia.

The hotel, which has been a landmark in the city for over 135 years, will undergo a renovation and rebrand, with plans to open under the Handwritten Collection in mid-2026. The newly revamped hotel will feature 75 rooms, blending the property’s rich history with modern design and amenities.Hotel Continental’s transformation will honor its legacy while offering a more contemporary experience for guests.

With its blend of history and modernity, Hotel Continental will provide a unique offering to travelers, reinforcing the Handwritten Collection’s emphasis on delivering human-centered hospitality experiences.

Handwritten Collection is a brand that was launched in 2023 and is expanding rapidly across Europe. Moreover, the brand has already introduced 17 properties globally and is set to open 25 more in the near future, with over 150 additional projects in development. This new addition to the Handwritten Collection is part of Accor’s broader expansion strategy. The brand aims to reach 250 boutique hotels by 2030, with the new Croatian property marking an important step in its growth across Europe.

New additions in Europe include the Classic Hotel Nicosia in Cyprus, Adorn Tirana in Albania, MUZE Hotel Düsseldorf in Germany, and Hotel Ter Zand in the Netherlands. Other notable openings are Fort Saint-Laurent Hôtel & Spa in Lyon, France, and the upcoming Tecadra Bucharest Hotel in Romania. Recent openings also include Hotel Maison Hamelin in Paris, Hôtel Plaza Biarritz Plage in Biarritz, and Hotel Castel Maintenon near Paris.
