Campaign - Mercure Hexagone Hotel - FERRANDI Paris

From the Master Hospitality Management at Ferrandi to the position of General Manager of the Mercure Hexagone hotel, Justine, a young and ambitious 24-year-old woman.

After having graduated with honors from my scientific baccalaureate, I went on to study hotel management at the Lycée Alexandre Dumas, and then to complete a BTEC Higher National Diploma in hotel management and catering at Ferrandi, where I was able to gain professional experience. These two years were spent in a work-study program at the Sofitel Scribe hotel. I learned rigor, organization but also the fundamental techniques of the service profession.
Between my BTEC Higher National Diploma and my Bachelor's degree, I spent a year perfecting my English, which allowed me to go to Vancouver for a few months of immersion, and then, back in France, to work at CWT, in order to understand the other side of our business. My bachelor's degree was done in a work-study program at the Marriott Ambassador Hotel, as an F&B Director's assistant. This experience gave me the opportunity to acquire my first skills in leadership, managing a team and animating meetings.
After completing my first two years of studies in this field at Ferrandi, the decision to do my Master's degree in Hospitality Management at Ferrandi was right and obvious for the end of my studies; choosing to do it in English proved to be the best choice, I excelled, especially in the subjects with a strong numerical and managerial component.
I then fought to get a job right out of school, despite the health crisis we were going through, and I landed the job of Assistant Manager at the Mercure Hexagone Hotel in Luxeuil Les Bains. Getting the position of Director has always been a dream of mine, since the beginning of my career. 4 months after taking my first position, I was promoted to the position of Hotel Manager, which is a real achievement, a new challenge to take up!
A fascinating aspect of my job today is to contribute to the growth of the company, but also of the team. The hotel business is above all based on human relations and the sense of hospitality. Ambition and dedication are part of my personality, I chose the hotel and restaurant industry in order to meet my needs for human interaction, rigor, but also in response to my overflowing generosity and natural authority.
Step by step, I have done everything to improve our quality of service and our services, which our guests appreciate very much! This, while keeping the right balance between control over our KPI's and the team. This is the most challenging part of my role, but also the most exciting: managing the team, recruiting and training them, managing revenue, pricing, forecasting market growth, securing profitable contracts, staying ahead of the competition, having the right payroll, controlling costs... Indeed, despite the health crisis that is hitting our sector hard, we have been able to advance the development of the establishment, with a turnover that has increased by 5 percentage points compared to 2019. This is then a very good progression, I want to talk about achievements in the first-person plural, because without the whole team, all this would not be possible!
It is currently the most intense period, between the realization of budgets for the next year, the creation of projects for the end of the year, the responses to calls for tender, the renewals / creation of corporate contracts, the end of the year is hectic but so exciting!
My work is based on my three values: passion, generosity and rigor. They are my strong points and help me to remain accessible and authentic, even more so during the most intense periods.
The future of the hotel looks very interesting as a total renovation project is underway, without closing, for a passage in 4 stars, the creation of a wellness area and many beautiful surprises for our customers.
For my part, my main objective in the medium term is to make the team grow even more, to perfect our service, to develop the event part even more.
In the future, I would love to have the opportunity to animate some Master courses, in order to enthuse the students, as much as I was able to do by meeting the professionals of our sector!
