The Hotel Marqués de Riscal The Luxury Collection, was inaugurated in 2006, designed by Frank O. Gehry, becoming one of the first wine tourism hotels in Spain and an architectural icon.
The architect Cesar Caicoyaalready participated in the original project and has now been in charge of facing an ambitious extension that adds up to 18 rooms crowned by 961 photovoltaic solar panels that form the roof of the building.
The first of this kind, the solar panels form the roof itself. The energy generated by the installation has been allocated in full to the hotel and will allow savings of up to 30% the total electrical consumption.
The project thus promotes a more competitive and more sustainable energy model. The built-in intelligent solution allows to know, in real time, the energy that is consumed and produced through an App and operating the installation of autonomous form.
The project has also had aid for renewable installations for self-consumption encouraged by the Basque Energy Agency (EVE).
