Greece benefits from its nice weather and a diversified tourist offering. With its seaside, nature, cultural or heritage tourism, Greece can target a broad clientele.
The tourism industry thus generates more than 7.5% of the country’s GDP.
In addition, Greece’s competitivity has been boosted by the decrease in labor costs that was caused by Greece’s economic travails in recent years. Besides, several competing destinations (Turkey, North Africa…) are currently suffering from safety issues.
The number of foreign arrivals in Greek hotels reached 15.5 million in 2015, 1.1 million more than in 2014 and 72% more than in 2007. International demand rose again in 2016, and domestic demand finally stabilized after a long decline. .
As of January 1, 2017, the country hosts 415,372 rooms.
