The Opera house of Ghent offers each year a major event that attract more than two million visitors: the annual "Gentse Feesten" festival in July. They enable hotels to sustain occupancy rates during the summer season. Ghent also hosts an annual film festival, a music festival (“OdeGhent”) in September, and a triennial “Light Festival”.

The city’s hotel activity mainly relies on its economy, as Ghent is a powerful industrial centre in Belgium, with its steel industry or its Volvo plant that produces a large amount of vehicles. Besides the industry, the city is also turning towards communications technologies.
