May 2015: extended weekends do not make every French hotelier happy

In May, the French hotel industry has seen its performances stagnate relative to those of last year. The exceptional number of extended weekends this year (1st and May 8th having been Fridays, in addition to traditional Ascension Thursday and Pentecost Monday that was in May this year) logically penalized Ile-de-France and business locations, while the Province hotel industry, particularly on the coast, recorded a RevPAR increase. Since the start of the year 2015, the trend still remains positive for the French hotel industry, despite the further slowdown in May.

Tourists were nevertheless almost as numerous as last year to stay in hotels on the territory and enabled the occupancy rate to record a slight increase of 0.4 points compared to May 2014 (68.5%). The 0.6% drop in the average price (89.3 euros) is thus solely responsible for the 0.1% decline of...
