
In January 2014, hotels did not change their VAT-inclusive prices, meaning they dropped their turnover excluding taxes by an average of 3%. They thus absorbed almost all the increase in the VAT in January, which is traditionally one of the bleakest months of the year. Borne by international demand, Paris and the upscale segment resist better while bad weather penalizes the shoreline and hotels in the provinces suffer from the drop in buying power of the French population.
