France Allemagne

In the France-Germany contest, the last point scored goes to France, which moved ahead of neighboring Germany in terms of attractiveness for investors, according to an annual barometer. With more R&D projects in industry than in other European countries and holding second place (behind the United Kingdom), i.e. 1,027 foreign projects that have moved to France versus 1,054 in the UK, the number of R&D projects in France is higher than in other European countries.

Performances in recent years have put Germany and France very close in terms of OR. However, the events calendar benefits Germany more often than not, as the RevPAR shows below:

In France, the air and space show will be held from June 17 to 23, at the same time as the FiFA Women's World Cup which begins June 7 and end July 7. More long-term perspectives are also positive with the 2024 Olympics, even if they are not the panacea in terms of occupancy (see the impact of the 2012 Olympics in London); it is powerful motor to boost structuring projects despite a few shortcomings that are already taking shape on the horizon, such as the postponement of the Charles de Gaulle Express line.

For Germany, after the 65th edition of BAUMA in Munich which boosted occupancy, it will be necessary to wait for 2022 to irrigate the capital of Bavaria. The events calendar is nonetheless quite full as Germany is the second MICE destination (642 congresses) worldwide behind the USA according to the ICCA, while France ranks 4th (579 congresses in 2018).
