2006: a true rise in strength for French hotels.

February

A month of events, the highpoint of a rich year that comes in time to strengthen the season after an excellent summer. The result of all these favorable factors: the RevPar posts record growth since October 2002 (+12.1%). And the higher the range, the stronger the uptrend for all indicators. October benefited from major events that succeeded one another throughout the month. In Paris above all (the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, FIAC and the particularly appealing edition of the Paris Motor Show, which reached its zenith and practically saturated the hotel supply) but also in Rouen with the well attended Normandy October Festival, or elsewhere with a variety of medical conventions, such as in Nantes, one of the cities that came out the best within this already cheering tableau. An encouraging curtain rise February marks the beginning of a fine ascension for French hotels with results that are nonetheless uneven from one destination to the next. Paris already positions itself as the motor behind this increase while some cities still experience some difficulties (Nice and Lille first and foremost). It must be said that the capital benefited from a month with many international events: the fashion, lingerie and shoe fairs, as well as “who's next” (the great rendezvous for new fashion trends) and the beginning of the agricultural fair at the very end of the month. Many events, good international presence and domination by the upmarket: February sets the stage for the year with strong trends that hold true in the months that follow.May Paris takes off and the provinces follow suit The true takeoff. May appears as a key month for 2006. With a RevPar up by 7.0%, the end of spring brings France hope for the best. While occupancy rates remain relatively stable with respect to 2005, it is essentially the increases in average daily rates across all segments (with special mention for hard budget and upmarket hotels) that explain this growth. International clientele are present, particularly European tourists who prove to be very dynamic. Paris is once again in the lead, thanks in particular to its 4* supply that is doing well and events that are very strong: the finale of the Football Champions’ League, Cardiology Congress. The provinces also progressed well, although they did not attain the same scores. Once again, the trend for upscale hotels is stronger than in the other segments: growth in RevPAR ranges from +1.2% at 2* to +7.9% at 4*.July Summer is off to a spectacular start With July, France once again experienced the satisfaction of a good summer season that it had been missing for several years. French tourists were present, as were foreign clientele who showed clear growth. Stimulated by an economic situation that was regaining confidence, business clientele were no exception. In the end: July posted remarkable scores, benefiting from the best occupancy in five years: +1.8 pts occupancy rate, +7.4 % for the average daily rate and + 10.2% for the RevPar over 2005. Still aloft, Paris enjoyed a strong burst of urban tourism with long haul arrivals. Partly assisted by a heat wave and a carry over of clientele due to the critical situation in the Middle East, the coastal areas did well, including the Atlantic coast which left behind its disappointment from the season in 2005.October Reinforcement from the various fairs A month of events, the highpoint of a rich year that comes in time to strengthen the season after an excellent summer.
