Premier Inn

The British group announces the acquisition of a portfolio of 19 hotels in Germany, under its Premier Inn brand.

Whitbread is mostly established in the UK but also has some hotels in the Middle East and in Germany. Premier Inn owner Whitbread already had 12 hotels in Germany but decided to expand further in the country.

The acquisition from Foremost Hospitality Group GmbH includes 13 leasehold hotels (comprising 2,140 rooms), which are already operating. Six committed pipeline leasehold hotels (comprising around 970 rooms) are scheduled to open, for the most part, within two years.

Alison Brittain, CEO, Whitbread justifies this investment saying, “We believe Germany has many of the structural growth drivers […] and that Germany is a market that will deliver strong returns in the future.”

This operation refers to Whitbread’s will to identify strategic opportunities like it did earlier with Costa in China: the group bought out Costa’s South China joint venture partner.
