The Ecotable label is designed to raise awareness of this issue and help restaurants display their commitment to visitors. By the end of 2022, 30 restaurants will have been awarded the label.

In the run-up to major events such as the Rugby World Cup in 2023 and the Summer Olympics in 2024, the Marseille Metropolitan Tourist and Convention Bureau is strengthening its sustainable development strategy in favour of more eco-responsible tourism.

Ecotable is open to all types of restaurant owners who wish to do more for promoting sustainability. A support and monitoring platform is made available to each candidate and allows them to carry out an environmental audit on their restaurant. The audit is based on 8 axes: supply, health, menu, waste, resources, communication, ethics and social, non-food. Depending on their results, a restaurant owner can obtain 1, 2 or 3 Ecotables.

The restaurants Le Cloitre and Eaux de Mars have held the label since 2020. The launch of the first session took place on 1 June 2022. 10 restaurants are candidates. The second session is currently open until the end of August 2022, and a third will take place by the end of the year.

The objective of the label is to ‘raise awareness of sustainable development among catering professionals and to support them logistically and financially (100% in the first year)’.

In 2020 a similar scheme was launched by the Marseille Tourist Office for hotels: the Clef Verte label. Accor, a major hotel group, is planning to join the label and has submitted 14 properties for the next session.

These two labels complement the ISO 20121 certification obtained by the city's tourist office in 2021, as well as its Destination Innovante Durable label and entry in the GDS 2021 Index.
