How AI ChatGPT offers personalised address recommendations by partnering with booking platforms

Online booking tool OpenTable is the first in its field to partner with Chat GPT to develop an innovative address recommendation tool. To do this, the platform will plug an AI API into its internal databases so that they can feed in and use this content to provide the most accurate responses possible.

Users will be able to interact with ChatGPT via a chatbot by asking questions such as:

  • "I have a date I want to impress, what restaurant on the Upper West Side in NYC has oysters and great cocktails?"
  • "Which brunch with the best reviews can I take my mum to for Mother's Day?"
  • "I'm hosting my best friend's surprise birthday party next Friday and I want to invite 10 of his close friends. What restaurant should I look at in Austin?"

And the bot will provide personalized recommendations in real time.

Each address suggested by Chat GPT will be enriched with information taken from the OpenTable website such as opening hours, price range, customer reviews or availability.

They will also include a link to book directly through the booking platform.  In addition to being a source of inspiration for the users of the booking platform, this tool aims to become a real virtual assistant. The AI will take into account in its recommendations constraints such as the number of guests or the desired dates.

The same integration has also been done with the hotel and flight booking platform Kayak.

  • This trend is in line with hyper-personalisation. With more arbitrage, consumers are looking for a unique experience that is totally in line with their expectations, expectations that differ from person to person.
  • Most are trying to differentiate themselves by offering more tools for restaurant owners creating a multi-functional super platform. An option that can make it complicated and time-consuming for the restaurateur to get started, whereas AI, with this model, simplifies the user experience and focuses mainly on customer satisfaction.
  • A virtuous circle: if the application proves to have more users, this represents greater visibility for the businesses and therefore a majority use of the tool compared to its competitors.
  • If we push the logic further, it also means more data collected that will feed the AI and more accurate recommendations for customers, but also more material for the marketing strategy of restaurateurs.
  • The question remains as to how well the AI can understand each user. What criteria will ChatGPT select to define the "best" address and how it manages to adapt to each profile?
