
The 74th edition of the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin, which took place from 15 to 25 February 2024, closed its doors to an unprecedented influx of over 12,000 visitors from 143 countries, surpassing the number of around 11,500 recorded in 2023 and breaking the pre-pandemic record of 11,423. This historic edition had a significant impact on the hotel sector, with performances up sharply throughout this intense film week.

The festival was attended by 614 exhibiting companies and institutions representing 69 countries, as well as a significant number of buyers, totalling 1,263 people. Despite this exceptional turnout, the number of registered buyers was down 3% on the previous year. Similarly, the market recorded a 14% drop in the number of films and series screened, with only 664 works shown at 1,029 screenings, compared with 773 works at 1,533 screenings in 2023. Despite these declines, the event remains a major event for the film industry.
The Berlin International Film Festival, better known as the Berlinale, is one of the world's most prestigious annual film events. Launched in 1951 by the Western allies in West Berlin during the Cold War, its aim was to promote cultural freedom and reduce the divisions between East and West Germany through film. Since then, it has become one of the three major film festivals, alongside Cannes and Venice.
Last year, the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival took place from 16 to 26 February 2023.

Cumulative performance
Cumulative hotel performance during the Berlinale, from 15 to 25 February 2024 in Berlin, is positive overall and exceeds that of the 2023 edition of the Berlinale, demonstrating strong interest in this film industry event:
- The occupancy rate during this period reached 78.3%, up 6.6 points compared to the 2023 edition.
- The average price was €99.8 excluding VAT, an increase of 5.0%.
- RevPAR was €78.2 excluding VAT, a significant increase of 14.6%.
These figures show a better performance this year, with an overall increase in occupancy, average price and RevPAR compared with the 2023 Berlinale.
