The Ryder Cup, a successful event for hoteliers

A look back at the hotel performances of the properties near the golf trophy. One observation must be made: hoteliers are the big winners

For the first time in France, the Ryder Cup golf trophy was held from September 25 to 30. Little known before in France, the 42nd edition attracted more than 150,000 visitors from 90 countries. It is the kind of global event with which Guyancourt and the neighbouring municipalities are not very familiar.

OlaKala_market share "observatoire" traced a 15 km radius around the golf course to assess hotel performance and neighbouring hotels; the figures recorded, with the RevPAR leaping 184.7% on average compared to the previous year with an OR of 94.4%. Prices will have risen by 103.7% to an average of €212.8 before tax.

The most remarkable performances of the week were those of Friday and Sunday, September 18 and 30. Friday, September 28 records the highest ADR of the week at €231.8 excluding tax while Sunday, September 30 produced an increase in its RevPAR by 333.4% to reach €181.2 excluding tax.

The golf trophy, previously unknown in France, attracted an audience of 2.2 million viewers on French TV and the golf federation is counting on this event to increase the popularity of the sport in the country. French hoteliers near golf courses can look forward to the years ahead.
