Affiche Mare Luna

8th June will mark World Ocean Day 2022, and to celebrate it, the two Michelin-starred chefs will combine their kitchens for a one-off dinner and event dedicated to the protection of marine life.

Called Mare Luna, the event will take place at Mirazur in the Alpes-Maritimes. Aponiente chef Ángel Léon will team up with Mauro Colagreco in his French restaurant to present an exclusive menu that will highlight the link between cuisine and nature by using local and Mediterranean products. It will celebrate marine biodiversity and has been specifically designed to showcase the treasures of the sea.

Promoting the protection of the sea will be at the very heart of the event. Alongside the association Stand Up For The Planet, the two chefs will conduct a beach clean-up operation in the morning in order to raise public awareness of the fight against ocean pollution. They have also called on the artist Mr OneTeas to create a work of art from the plastic collected on local beaches. This piece will be exhibited during the event.

Their commitment to the environment and sustainable development brings these two chefs together. At Mirazur, Mauro Colagreco is reinventing traditional farming techniques. In the gardens surrounding the restaurant, they grow hundreds of species of flowers, herbs and vegetables. His R&D teams have also brought back to life forgotten vegetable seedlings that were close to extinction. In addition, the restaurant is the first in the world to be certified 100% plastic-free.

At Aponiente, Ángel Léon has been awarded a Michelin Green Star for Sustainability due to his efforts to revive the local area surrounding his restaurant, the Bay of Cádiz. He also created the organisation "Despuesques" with the intention of bringing together chefs from around the world to discuss the issue of sustainability.

It means a lot to me to cook with my friend Ángel. We share the same passion for our work, we have the same enthusiasm for exploring the riches of nature, and we both look to seize the opportunity to discover them and highlight them in our restaurants.

Mauro Colagreco

It is an honour to cook with Mauro. I look forward to getting to know the identity and environment of the unique establishment that is the Mirazur.
