Dubai

Come the end of March 2014, those traveling to Dubai, whether staying at a beach resorts, business hotel, cabin, or rental, will have to pay a tourist tax to the city. The tax will differ among different lodging categories. It will go from 7 dirhams (about 1.40 euro) to 20 dirhams (about 4 euro) per person per night. The tax, entitled "Tourist Dirham", will go towards paying for Expo 2020 which Dubai will host between October 2020 and April 2021. Funds will either go towards infrastructural projects, or tourism promotion, as Dubai expects to host up to 25 million tourists during that time.
