L'évènement devrait attirer quelque 25 millions de visiteurs dans l'Emirat entre les mois d'octobre 2020 et d'avril 2021, dynamisant l'activité touristique de la destination.

The city of Dubai has been designated to host the World Exposition 2020. In competition with Yekaterinburg in Russia, Izmir in Turkey and Sao Paulo in Brazil, the Emirate seduced the jury with its, "connecting minds, creating the future" theme. For the country's authorities, this event represents "a fabulous boost for the growth of the tourism industry in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and the Gulf region". They thus expect to welcome some 25 million visitors between October 2020 and April 2021. In the first nine months of 2013, Dubai was able to attract more than 7.9 million tourists, an increase of 9.8% compared to the same period last year, and saw its hotel supply increase by seven new hotels. These figures should make a leap in 2020, with the advent of the World Expo.
