Dortmund has progressively specialized in biotechnology, robotics and other cutting-edge industries following the decline of the carbon and steel industries. The city is home to the headquarters of corporations such as ABP Induction Systems, Amprion, KHS, Rhenus, RWE, ThyssenKrupp…and of a football team which strongly contributes to its growing reputation, the BVB Dortmund. As European Capital of Culture, Ruhr 2010 helped promote the region’s unique heritage, especially the Industrial Museum in the former Zollern colliery.

As of January 1, 2017 Dortmund reached 2,207 rooms.
