The OTA heavyweight, the American Expedia, continues to grow. After the takeover of Orbitz Worldwide in September, it's HomeAway's turn to fall into Expedia's hands. The amount of the transaction to acquire the online seasonal rental specialist is 3.9 billion dollars. HomeAway offers more than a million live rental listings in 190 countries on its own website and through its different brands worldwide including Homelidays.com and Abritel.fr, which are present in France.

In France, Abritel represents more than 165,000 ads for seasonal rentals, 400,000 rooms and a capacity for 1 million people.

With this transaction, Expedia adds a new string to its bow and strengthens its position with regard to the rapid growth of sharing platforms, in the wake of AirBnB.

This news hit the headlines precisely on the day that MKG Hospitality reveals exclusive data on the development of this sector in France and its impact on commercial accommodations at its annual event TourInvest Forum at the InterContinental Paris le Grand.
