The hotel group implemented a system for checking reviews from clients posted on its website ChoiceHotels.com

Today, anyone who wishes to post feedback on ChoiceHotels.com will have to prove they stayed at one of the group's hotels. Choice Hotels has announced the implementation of a system to verify comments made about its properties.

First and foremost it asks clients for their reservation number to prove they stayed in one of the group's hotels before they may post a comment. This comment, as well as responses from properties, will be managed by a third-party company that will act as a moderator. Hotels will also be scored with stars according to the overall opinions published by clients.

"Research indicates that booking decisions for 81% of consumers are influenced by comments posted on review websites. Choice Hotels has launched this new system in order to ensure that its valued customers are provided the most accurate information possible," explains Robert McDowell, senior vice president Global Distribution and Loyalty at Choice.

The implementation of such a system in the Choice network is an example to follow for all social media, such as TripAdvisor. A first step was taken in France with the publication of the Afnor norm to provide a framework for comments posted on Internet, but some of the hotel industry's players find this to be insufficient.
