
Starwood Hotels & Resorts' lifestyle brand announced the opening of the hotel W Beijing Chang'an, its second property in the country after the W Guangzhou.
The new hotel marks an important stage in the development of Starwood in China, bringing its portfolio at the destination to more than 140 operational properties. The group also has 130 other hotels under development, including seven W Hotels planned over the next five years in cities such as Changsha, Chengdu, Shanghai, Suzhou, Sanya and Shenyang.
Internationally, W Hotels has a network of 45 properties and plans to strengthen its presence in Brisbane in Australia, Jakarta in Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Gurgaon and Nioda in India, and Phuket in Thailand.
On January 1, 2014, Starwood Hotels & Resorts was the seventh hotel group world wide in terms of number of rooms, according to the ranking realized each year by MKG Hospitality, hospitality consulting firm founded by Georges Panayotis. It had 339,243 rooms in 1,161 hotels. (Read our report)
