The American giant Virgin recently announced the opening of three new hotels in 2022. This opening is part of a strategy and a strong desire for growth on the part of the group, already well established in the United States.
A new property will open in New York City in late summer 2022 and two new hotels in Scotland in the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow in spring 2022. Virgin Hotels CEO James Bermingham and the rest of his executive team expressed their excitement and outlook for these new openings. "Moving into the UK is a significant step for us to take. We are very excited about Glasgow and Edinburgh being our first openings outside of the U.S.," said James. For the group, the stakes are high, as it represents an opportunity for extraordinary growth after a dark year for all tourism players. The new property in New York City, represents an additional challenge in a well-known territory.
The hotels
In Edinburgh, the hotel is located in an area of the old Scottish city next to the Royal Mile. The Landmark India Building, built in 1864, will see the American group move in. During the renovation, the group was keen to preserve the authenticity of the place while adding a welcome modern touch. The hotel will have no less than 222 rooms and several suites.
In Glasgow, the property will be located in Clyde Street, a district known and recognized for its central position in Glasgow and its art scene. With 240 rooms and a few suites, it will feature the characteristic elements of a Virgin hotel: numerous restaurants, bars, their signature "Funny Library Coffee Shop" and a panoramic view of the River Clyde.
What's next?
These three openings in 2022 mark a decisive turning point for Virgin, which is consolidating its presence in the United States and attempting to break into Europe with these two hotels. Five hotels are already open in the United States. If the context proves favorable, there is no doubt that these two hotels will be just the beginning of a very long series of openings in Europe.
