The hotel group announced a 20% increase in its hotel supply in the region by 2016, with the opening of 17 additional hotels.
Growth of the group will be through Mexico, the seventh largest market in the world. With the opening of the Aloft Guadalajara, Starwood Hotels & Resorts has 26 properties operating at the destination and a pipeline of seven additional hotels. Columbia is also one of the key destinations of the group, which plans to double its presence there over the next two years, to grow from four to eight operational hotels: including two Four Points Hotels by Sheraton and a W Hotel in Bogota. Finally, Starwood plans a comeback to Bolivia after 30 years away with the opening of the Sheraton Santa Cruz, a 150-room property.
"After steady growth in the GDP, a steady flow of direct foreign investments into strong growth markets, and a growing middle class, Latin America is a region full of opportunities for our brands to grow," declared Frits van Paasschen, President and Chief Executive Officer of Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
