The hotel group announced the development of the Westin Rusutsu Resort, its first resort in the country, slated to open in December 2015.

Starwood Hotels & Resort Worldwide has announced the signature of a contract to develop a new property in Japan. It is the Westin Rusutsu Resort, its first ski resort and seventh Westin hotel at the destination, where the brand is already established in Tokyo, Osaka, Sendai, Kyoto, Nagoya, and on Awaji island.

A result of the conversion of an existing property, owned by Kamori Kanko Co, the Westin Rusutsu Resort should open its doors in December 2015 in the mountains of Rusutsu, on Hokkaido Island, known for their winter sports installations. It will have 210 rooms and suites, several wellness installations (sauna, hot tubs, outdoor baths), tennis courts, and also a healthy restaurant.

As of January 2015, Starwood Hotels & Resorts was the seventh hotel group worldwide in terms of number of hotels with 346,599 units in 1,207 properties according to MKG Hospitality, consulting firm founded by Georges Panayotis. (read our report).
