Erbil

Carlson Rezidor announced the development of its first property in Iraq, the Radisson Blu Hotel Erbil, scheduled to open in 2017 in the capital of Kurdistan.

After Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Hilton Worldwide, it's Carlson Rezidor's turn to begin development in Iraq. The hotel group announced the opening of its first property in 2017, the  Radisson Blu Hotel Erbil.

“Our long-term strategy targets asset-light and sustainable growth with a specific focus on emerging markets. Kurdistan is one of the most interesting emerging markets in the Middle East: this prospering oil-rich region is not affected from instabilities in Iraq and offers considerable business potential,” said Wolfgang M. Neumann, President & CEO of Rezidor.

Currently under construction, the upscale hotel is opening in the capital of Kurdistan, near the Parliament and the international airport. It will have 260 rooms, a restaurant open year round, a bar, meeting rooms and reception areas, a fitness center and a spa. The property will be operated by The Rezidor Hotel Group.

With this new development in Iraq, Rezidor will be present in 81 countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa combined. As of January 1, 2015, Carlson Rezidor was the thirteenth hotel group worldwide in terms of number of rooms with 172,234 units in 1,092 properties according to MKG Hospitality, consulting firm founded by Georges Panayotis.
